About Lynn Duffey
I picked up my first brush when I was about 4 and haven’t stopped since. I’m a fine arts graduate of Edgecliff College in Cincinnati. And I do love birds! While Bruce served in the Army, we lived off base in Bordentown, NJ. and I had the wonderful experience of working at The Edward Marshall Boehm studio in Trenton, painting their beautiful porcelain bird creations. The work is collected around the world and several pieces live in the White House. While there, I was selected as one of international artists who finished the life-sized mute swan sculpture “Bird of Peace”. President Nixon presented it to the Chinese people on his historic mission to China. It resides in the Great Hall in Beijing. After the Army we returned to Ohio where I began my 8-year association with the world-renowned wildlife artist, John Ruthven. I worked on a series of extinct bird species in the Audubon Tradition. I was selected to perform the Thomas Hovell role of hand water-coloring prints of Ruthven’s magnificent originals. Working with John was a real pleasure and a wonderful artistic experience. RIP John. Later, while living in St. Louis, I became a founding member of the Missouri Wildlife Artists Guild. Ducks Unlimited enthusiasts and local Audubon members alike, all soon became good friends.
We opened my gallery in Suttons Bay on the farm where we used to live. Walk to work! Today it is open May thru December, Thursday thru Sunday. On off days or during winter season you can arrange to visit by calling me first at (248) 762-5599. We live about 40 minutes away now, so it’s pretty easy for me to meet you there. Hope to see you soon!

Audubon. My muse.

Vive la France!
I fell in love with Paris some 25 years ago when my good friend Mary Lynch and I took our high school daughters (who remain best friends to this day) on a mother daughter trip to Paris. We loved the small cafes and were taken with the elegance and style of the French women we encountered there. My French Girls are a tribute to all of them.
Up North Summer:
Up at my gallery in Suttons Bay, we meet wonderful vacationing families from all over the US. Year after year we see old friends and meet new ones and our beach and light house paintings go home to keep Up North memories alive all year long. And on occasion my graphic cows have even found their forever homes on new farms.…one on a Texas cattle ranch and another at an Indiana dairy farm. Of course, there’s another in a high rise in Chicago. And still another in Los Angeles . In truth, they’re made for gazing, not grazing.
Santa’s Coming!
I first fell in love with Santa in the toy department in Pogue’s in Cincinnati. I was four and he was well over 200 years old. So when I started doing his image, I loved the European Father Christmas and St. Nicholas postcards from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. But then the early 20th century Santa’s were just as charming so I ended up embracing them all. Santa will always have a warm place to stay in my heart.
Miniatures
Over the years, my work has taken shape in in many sizes from a mural in a chapel wall to Boehm porcelains, and large gallery pieces in the Audubon tradition. But sometimes of the most fun comes in small packages. I love to think of my miniatures lighting up a tiny space in studio apartments, work cubicles, on sailboats, or travelling in motor homes. Of course that doesn’t rule out castle in Ireland, a Chateau in Provence, or a villa in Tuscany if you have one.
Bling’s the thing!
The artistry of handmade jewelry has always fascinated me. I always loved wandering galleries from New York to Chicago, Seattle to New Orleans… wherever our travels took us! I hand make all my pieces. And I promised myself to make all of them very affordable to be worn and admired for a special occasion…or no occasion at all!
Got an Idea? Let’s hear it!
Over the years I’ve been commissioned to do art for all kinds of wonderful projects. Many favorite birds. A baby nursery. A five-foot apple for a Detroit Eastern Market. Bridesmaid’s jewelry gifts. And a 10 foot by 6-foot mural commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Christian Brother’s founder, Edmond Ignatius Rice. Just to name a few! I don’t do tall buildings.
